“As Mary Lay Dying …”

When Lazarus died under the rich man’s table,

the Lord dispatched angels to retrieve him …

I wonder, as Mary lay dying,

while John held her hand,

if her son took up

this sacred duty Himself.

As He sat on His throne,

in all of His blinding splendor,

He said, “Father” …

And all of the heavenly host

knew this time

He was talking to Joseph.

“Abba, let’s go get Mom.”
